Back on ebay

I listed 3 items on ebay on Sunday 11/23. Nothing of any great value. Actually 3 things that got in my way while decluttering in our computer room. So far, one item has a bid and 3 watchers. The others have no bids and no watchers.

I'll be out Wednesday and Thursday nights but maybe Friday I can list a few more items. I'd like to take in a couple hundred dollars between now and the end of the year.

    One of these days I'd like to learn how to sell on eBay. It sounds as if it's not too labor/time intensive and a good way of unloading nice, but no longer used items.

    I think the biggest pain of ebay is figuring out how much to charge for shipping.

    Analise - Selling on ebay is pretty simple. There can be a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it, no problem at all.

    swimgirl - If you plan to sell regularly, absolutely get yourself a postage scale. Once you have that, calculating shipping is a snap. Weigh the item. Go to usps.com, punch in the weight and it gives you the shipping cost. I wouldn't do it without a scale. When I first started way back when, I used to pack everything and take the packages to the post office to weigh for me. What a royal pain in the behind that was. That didn't last long. I realized very quickly that a postage scale was a necessity. You can get a new one for under $30 and a used one for less than that.

    I've considered that... there's an office store nearby going out of business, so I will stop by tomorrow to see if they have any for 70% off. Thanks for the tip!

    I actually use a food scale I bought at Walmart for $10. Seems to be pretty accurate! Only goes to 5 lbs. I have also used my bathroom scale for larger packages. USPS prices in 1 lb increments for priority mail, parcel post and media mail.

    ccf, a food scale works fine, too. My postal scale is a cheapie model I bought years ago at Staples. It has a 6-lb limit but I very, very rarely sell anything heavier than that. When I do, I also use the bathroom scale.
