Final tuition payment made!!!!!

I just made the final tuition payment for our daughter. Hard to believe but she graduates in under 6 weeks. For the past 5 months, we were on a payment plan of $3,100/month so starting May 1, that means we will have an extra $3,100/month in our budget which is pretty cool. As I said before, the first order of business will be to pay off our HELOC which is about 12K. After that, I'll split the money between cash savings and extra mortgage payments and I'm sure some of it will go for some fun stuff along the way too.

    Congratulations! Was the HELOC used for tuition? I'm looking forward to four (maybe 5, youngest may add on an extra year to get Masters in ENG) years from now when we'll be done paying for two girls to go to college.

    The HELOC was not used for college. When I left my practice back in September, I had to pay for a malpractice policy (tail coverage) for about $14,500. I haven't been paying it very aggressively because tuition was my first priority, but now that tuition is done, I can knock out the HELOC within 4 months. That will leave us debt free except the mortgage.
