I'm going to Chicago...for the day

November 14th, 2007 at 10:02 am

I'm not sure if it will be more trouble than it is worth, but my partner got invited to a medical conference in Chicago and doesn't want to go. We contacted them and I am able to go in his place.

The deal is they pay for airfare, ground transportation, hotel and meals. PLUS, they pay me $1,500 for attending.

So I'll be leaving a week from Monday and coming home on Tuesday. Like I said, it is a bit of a hassle, but for $1,500 I'll suffer.

What I'm really hoping is that this company does programs like this regularly and this will get me on their list for future programs. I wouldn't mind doing that a couple of times each year.

Clearly they see paying you and your way as an investment!

    wow, Steve, that is nice!!

Will they be trying to convince you to prescibe certain drugs?

Absolutely, db1974. The conference is not sponsored by a pharmaceutical company, because they aren't allowed to do stuff like this anymore. But non-pharmaceutical companies, market research places and such can do so.

I happen to already use a fair amount of the drug the program is focusing on so I don't really need any convincing and don't expect this program to change my use of the drug.

oooh, Chicago is the best (maybe not in late November!)
but if you get a few minutes, go admire the lights on the Wrigley and Tribune buildings on Wacker and Michigan Ave at night, walking over the river.

    It's soooooo pretty there.

I probably will see little to nothing of the city. I'm staying at the Renaissance Hotel near the airport and I'll likely be seeing the inside of a conference room all day Tuesday.

Oh well. And OHare's so much fun....

I've been to nursing conferences before, and liked some of them, while some were boring.
