Of Broken Windows and Incompatible Printers

January 25th, 2008 at 01:59 pm

We were, unfortunately, awake about 5:30 this morning. I've had a cold and was all congested which got me up. That in turn woke DW. Just as we were lying there talking, we suddenly heard a loud CRACK. One pane of the window next to the bed had cracked. I got up and looked outside to see if anyone was out there and had thrown something, but it was deserted. Plus, it was the inside pane that had broken. The outside pane was still intact. So it couldn't have been a rock or bird or anything like that. It just broke on it's own. Now I have to track down somebody to replace the window. We actually have another pane downstairs that cracked a while back that we never repaired, so that's 2 windows that need replacing. $$$

In a previous post, I told of my great laser printer bargain last week. The printer sat untouched until last night when I finally hauled it up to the computer room to unpack it. I also went online and ordered toner cartridges on Amazon. I proceeded to rearrange the workspace to accomodate the new printer, carefully unpack it and set it up. Then I put the CD in to load the printer software only to discover that HP doesn't provide Macintosh support for this model. I checked their website and it said the same thing. So this weekend, the printer is getting repacked and returned to the store. So much for my bargain.

    Wow, that's a bummer!

If you find another printer that you would like to get, I would examine the box to make sure that it has a specific

We needed a good color laser printer about a year and a half ago. We finally found one at Staples but it was almost a nightmare to locate just what we needed to work with our Macs. DH had very specific requirements. Once we found it, we paid a lot for it but it turned out to be a good printer!

I love my cheap HP PSC all i one. Prints very good photos, we even printed up our wedding invitations on it. It also scans and faxes.

Oh man--I hate all that returning and repackaging. But usually, for me, the thought of it is worse than the reality. Was it the cold that broke that window? My neighbors had a similar experience and they suspect the subzero weather we've had. Hope your cold gets better!

BA - I should have checked the box. Just never gave it a thought because I've used various other HP printers with my Mac. I've even taken home one of our office laser printers a couple of times and used it with the Mac when I had a job I needed the laser for.

My English Castle - I'm guessing it was the cold. The windows are about 10 years old, so I don't think I can blame any product defect if they've lasted this long. Fortunately, I've got a patient that runs a glass company. I'll give him a call and get him to take care of it. He always gives me a break. Did my car windshield last year for about 1/2 of what everyone else wanted.
