More Bat Mitzvah shopping

April 12th, 2008 at 07:27 pm

My daughter will be celebrating her Bat Mitzvah in September. Both for creativity reasons and to save money we are making our own invitations, place cards, sign-in board and centerpieces. Since we're using a bunch of craft supplies in the process, we've been making a point of using the weekly AC Moore and Michael's coupons for the discounts.

Today, we first went to 2 different scrapbook supply stores. We need cardstock to back/trim the invitations. We also wanted to get a corner punch to embellish the corners of the invitations rather than just having plain square corners. We got some good ideas but didn't actually purchase anything.

Then we went to AC Moore and Michael's (they are across the street from each other). As AC Moore, we used a 50% off coupon to get a 24x36 inch canvas to use as the sign-in board. At Michael's, we got adhesive we need for the centerpieces and used a 40% off coupon to get oil pastels, also for the centerpieces.

We saved $12.00 plus tax with the coupons. I figure by going every week, we'll probably end up saving a couple hundred dollars by the time we're done.

You have really been busy shopping and seem to have a handle on everything. The only thing that I would suggest for embellishments for corners are the little silver and gold doilies that they use to decorate plates for desserts. There are a myriad of designs. In the past, I cut them out in shapes of hearts and glued them to white shiny paper bags for valentine cards for students in my son's classes. You can cut out anything that you want. I have even seen them in white which could be spray painted.

What about the scrapbook stickers that many are using now or going online to see what you can find. You might even find some on ebay. I'm always amazed by what I see for sale there.

Oh, by the way, i'm talking about paper doiles or the foil ones.

Unfortunately our Michael's coupon is in the local paper we do not buy, but sometimes I get it from my MIL. Hope your daughter (well and you too) has a wonderful party!

Aleta - We want the corner punch so that the corners aren't sharp and so that the colored background shows through more (the invite itself is on white paper). They make a bunch of neat corner punches. We just have to choose one that doesn't clash with the overall design.

homebody - Fortunately, our circulars come in the mail so everybody gets them.
