Death in the family today

My aunt died this afternoon. She has been critically ill for a few weeks and on a ventilator in ICU for the past 2 weeks. There had been no sign of improvement and her condition started to deteriorate so the family made the decision to take her off the vent.

The funeral is Friday morning in Florida (I'm in NJ). I just finished making all the arrangements for my mother and I to fly down Thursday night. Unfortunately, we will need to fly back Friday evening because we have a Bar Mitzvah to attend Saturday morning here in NJ. So it will be a crazy few days running back and forth but I was always close to my aunt and her family. Her daughter and I are age peers and grew up spending a lot of time together. They lived a block away from me growing up so we were always over each other's homes.

Just another reason to keep an emergency fund.

    I'm sorry for your loss. It is good to have the comfort of not having to worry about how to pay your way to say your goodbyes.

    I am sorry for you and your mom and your cousin...and the rest of the family. If this is your moms sister, I am sure she is dealing with much grief too..I hope you all find peace in your memories...which it sounds like you have many!

    Thanks everyone. By the way, the aunt who died was my father's sister, not my mother's, but she and my mother were very close and have known each other for about 60 years. As I said, they lived a block away from us so we did many things together, holidays, vacations, etc.

    Another condolence here. I have some very elderly relatives and have already planned for the future expenses well in advance. Maybe you had much less time to foresee the circumstances. Have a safe trip, and rejoice in the young person's future.
