Haven't stopped decluttering

July 3rd, 2008 at 12:57 pm

In case anyone was wondering, I am still working on attacking clutter. It slowed down a bit but I'm still doing something every day.

The past few days, I moved to some less obvious clutter - in the filing drawers. I've cleaned out numerous folders and gotten rid of lots of unneeded papers. For example, I have a file of all my professional licenses and certifications. There is no reason why I need to have anything but the current licenses, but the file held everything going back 10 years - to the shredder. So stuff like that has been getting thinned out.

Although this doesn't make the house look less cluttered, it does help in a couple of ways. First, it makes it easier to find something when I need it because there isn't as much junk to sort through. Second, it creates more available space in the files so that I can add files to store and organize other things that currently are out in the open.

So I'll keep at it. How is everyone else doing?

Great Disneysteve, the file cleaning out helps me in that I can keep up with new filing if the old ones are thinned down. I've been going thru a few files a day in order to break this task down into bite-size chunks.

I just caught up on your "Decluttering Series". It is very motavational. I think I'm going to start on my home office this weekend...especially if it's really hot outside.

    Thank's for sharing your progress.

I've been doing a similar thing with my Drip stock receipts. Best part: getting rid of the old paper smell. Gak!

I've abandoned craigslist and freecycled by DD's old clothes, shoes and toys.
I think it's an indication of general economic conditions because every item seems to have a raft of people wanting it.

Plus, it's so sweet to get an e-mail from a kid thanking you for a second-hand doll crib.

I have a nice document feeder on my scanner and have used that to get rid of over two filing cabinets of paperwork and backed it up on my external drive.

My crucial docs are now in plastic sheets inside a small fireproof box, and also backed up.
