Join the 2009 Ebay Challenge!

January 7th, 2009 at 04:58 pm

A while back, I had blogged about my ebay sales and goal for 2009 and someone suggested I post it as a challenge to encourage others to do the same.

Here's the deal. Set a personal goal for how much you'd like to generate each month in ebay sales. I would also include half.com and craigslist in the challenge. Where ever and how ever you want to sell your stuff is fine. You can even throw in your yard sales if you'd like.

My goal for 2009 is sales of $100/month average for the year. I've already had one half.com sale this week ($18.99). I haven't listed anything on ebay yet. I plan to start tonight.

Let's hear everyone else's goals and keep updating us regularly on your progress.

ETA: I remember on another site, what we used to do was put "Proud member of ..." at the end of our listings. Then we could look up each other's auctions. If you'd like to do that, just add, "Proud member of SavingAdvice.com" to the end of your listings.

Okay, I am in for the 2009 eBay challenge too!! I will also set a goal of $100.00 per month for myself. I will add a side reminder on my blog. Look out eBay, here we come!

I'm in too. I think I can do $100/month average also. My garage sales will definitely be involved in this! Right now I have two things that could go on ebay.

    Steve, you rock!
Thinking I could talk you into this, I listed a couple of things (about a dozen!) on half and Amazon this morning. My first book just sold for $7.89 and my second for 12.99. I'm $20.08 into this!

I am in, but in a different way. I am not setting myself a dollar goal, but to list at least one thing a month. So far, I have sold one already, and have listed item two. I plan on just going through closets, ridding of outgrown kids clothing and items and such.

saj, you can sell virtually anything (except illegal things like drugs, body parts, babies and such) on ebay. Seriously, I've sold everything from baby clothes to toys to holiday ornaments to dishes, glassware, collectible items, books, car accessories, computer and electronic gear, video games, DVDs, CDs, etc. Anything you have that you don't want anymore is fair game.

One of my favorite ebay items was old currency from
trips long ago. No one in our town would convert old Dutch money or Barbadian dollars, but they went fast on ebay. Seriously, I found an old pair of my mom's glasses from the 1960s, and they sold for $50. Someone loved the frames.

I am in for $100/mo. I am already at $150 from my Ebay and Amazon sales. Fun challenge, thanks!

I've been on a selling challenge for myself since last September, mostly Craigslist and Amazon. I'm up to $341 for 3 1/2 months. But Steve, you motivated me to list some of my daughter's clothes on Ebay. I've got 5 items currently going, with bids already. So exciting!
    thanks for the motivation.

So DisneySteve-ebay advice. I had 2 items listed with starting bids at .99 One just sold for .99 and one sold for 1.04. Any suggestions for raising the selling price? or is it just a crap shoot?
    thanks!

I won't list something for $.99 unless I'm pretty sure it is a hot item in high demand that is very likely to get bid up to a reasonable level. I'd rather spend an extra 20 or 30 cents on the listing fee and start the item at a price I'd actually be happy with.

My husband just sold some bathroom towel bars, toilet holder, etc. for $22. This brings our total up to $147.00 for 3 months. We have a goal of $50 a month, so we are a few dollars shy of the mark.

Main idea is to get this STUFF which are mainly large items out of our house so we can have more room.

We just sold some french door that we had. We had a set a two of different sizes and the party that bought them bought all 4. Woo hoo. They have been around for a long time and taking up room. We sold them for $70.00.

We are going for $50 a month so that brings us to a total of $217. year to date. We are under $33. for this month.

This certainly is an incentive to get rid of items that are in our way that someone else can use.

Thank you Disney Steve for your encouragement.

Sold a used Rosetta Stone software package for $75 on craigslist in Feb.

Sold a pair of stools last month on craigslist for $40 in under 4 hours.

Sold a bookcase on craigslist today for $200 (sold in under 48 hours for asking price)

Have a nice mountain bike listed on Ebay currently. 5 bids so far and up to $300. Still 4 days left and 25 people are watching the auction. My original Buy It Nor price was only $400 and I expect it will close higher than that Smile
    2009 Total: $755+
    Monthly average: $150+
