Got a check from Discover today

March 29th, 2007 at 02:40 am

I only use my Discover card when they have a good 5% cashback bonus special. As a result, I haven't used it for a few months. But a few months ago, I also redeemed my cashback bonus for $20 to be applied to my account. The only problem was I ended up having a zero balance when that occurred, which left me with a $20 credit. I kept meaning to use the card since I had a credit, but I forgot. Yesterday, I got a check in the mail from Discover for the $20 credit. I guess it is better for them to pay out the money than to keep tracking it on my account. Honestly, I'd rather have the money and not have to worry about using the card to utilize it.

Not so much worry -- I'm sure you would spend that amount in a pharmacy or a grocery store anyway.

Discover rules! I use it wherever accepted. My current reward balance is $120, and had already cashed in few times this year.

Home depot credit card does that too. I like getting the money back.

Discover may have changed their reward system recently ... They now have a card that gives a 5% rebate on all gasoline purchases & auto repairs. [There are rebates on other things too, but the gas rebate is the best part.]
Last month I shoped for a new credit card and ended up getting 2, Discover for gas and Citi for groceries (2% rebate). Gas & groceries are our 2 biggest charge categories.
Anyway ... I wonder if you could get Discover to change your terms, since you already have a card, so that you could also get 5% back for gas?

Did you sign up for the earn more quarterly? This spring it's stores like home depot etc that you earn 5% back. Last summer it was school so I paid DH's tuition and made 5% back. Then it was Christmas shopping and I made 5% back on that. This winter it was 5% back on travel.

I usually turn my cash back into GC or free movie rentals. It doubles the value from $20 to $40 to get a coupon book from Hollywoodvideo. Which is near our house and we rent a movie a week. Nice deal.
