Attention Ebay Watchers - Just bid already!

January 12th, 2008 at 01:54 am

I currently have 6 items listed on ebay. Between them, they have 14 watchers but only 2 bids. Folks, if you are interested in the item, place a darn bid. Don't wait to see what everyone else is going to do. Be bold. Take action. Make the first move.

I wonder if some are watching because they'd like to sell similar items so try to track most recent sales. Gives them an idea whether it is worth it to auction their own items. If you can look at their history (Do you know who is watching or is it anonymous?), maybe see if they are already buyers or sellers of related items.

    Hehehe.

Ok, BA. Are you watching all of my auctions? LOL!

Joan - I think that's probably part of it. I prefer to just search completed auctions for that purpose. And yes, watchers are anonymous.

Possibly they are bidding on a similar auction and put yours on watch as a back-up in case they get outbid? I've done that.

Hmmm, I have bidders and watchers. Then I have junk that nobody looks at - darn it!!!!

you can see who is watching? I didn't know that.

"Possibly they are bidding on a similar auction and put yours on watch as a back-up in case they get outbid?"

That is sometimes part of it. I've done that too. In this case, it doesn't apply. I've checked. Two of my auctions are for unique items. The others are for items that aren't unique but there are no other current auctions running for them.

Things have improved, though. I've got 4 items with bids now (a total of 10 bids have been placed) and a total of 16 watchers on 5 items. Only 1 item has no bids and no watchers.

annab - Your My eBay page show the number of watchers your items have. It doesn't identify the watchers - just tells you how many there are.

    1. they like to wait until the bidding ends so people dont raise the bids
    2. one way to avoid people like two different "FRIENDS OF BIDDERS who knows each other falsely raising the bid.
3." there are just want to have fun people" who as attitudes If I cant have it I wont let others buy it. so avoid them so wait until the last second to bid
    4. simpley price is too high
    5. item is suspicious. reluctant to bid
    6. seller or bidders has ZERO feedbacks
    7. dont know how to bid
    8. want to see how much it will sell for
    9. too dumb to bid
    10. cant afford it.

They might be looking for something and watching a few similar items to decide which is best for them. I do it. I don't just rush to buy the first thing I see. When I sell I see the same thing. You can't force people to buy your things just because they are watching them.

I have studied this for many years selling on ebay. I sell the same items over and over again for the last ten years.

When I add a new item it is like trying to ignite a non-flammable item. Once you get it going though it can go very well.

If I list an item I might get 30 watchers. At some point it will sell. Then for weeks, months, and even years you will have only a few watchers and the item will sell almost every week.

I have recently switched to all buy-it-now and things just do not sell as well anymore. Anybody else seeing the same results?

You gotta be kidding me. No offense, but anyone who bids before the last second is either a fool or has money to burn.

    Hi,

Watchers and bids is an indicator to see if your item is going to sell, also combined with messages you reply to like shipping costs and other questions.

you can make a decision to pull the ad before it goes under the hammer to cheaply.

Example 1: if there is 2 days to go and there is low watchers and no bids, there
is a strong chance the item wont sell of will sell for little money, you would probably
want to pull the ad and sacrifice .89 cents.

Example 2: If there is lots of watchers and little bids there is a strong chance
the item will have late bids in the last day to last minute, there is a strong chance
it will go a lot of money, dont pull the ad.

Example 3: lots of messages, lots of bids and little watchers, strong chance the
    item will sell reasonably well.

Example 4: No bids, no watchers, 2 days to go, pull the ad immediately and offer
buy it now with reasonable reserve price, or maybe its just not sellable.

Example 5: the 50/50 gamble, a few watchers, 1 bid at .99 cents, some messages, less than
2 days to go, if you paid very little for the item in the first place, probably let it go
    to the auction end.

Example 6: Lots of watchers, bids out of control, real desirable item, hit reserve in the first day
Bobs your uncle i say, leave the ad alone.

Example 7: little watchers, lots of bids, but hasnt hit the reserve you like.
There is a strong chance the item will sell ok at the reserve in the last hours, leave the ad.

so thats it, there arew more signals to look out for but these are the main ones i use
    in my strategy.

    cheers

    a Mc

When I want to keep track of an item, I just bookmark the page. I can get back to it much quicker as I don't even have to log in to eBay to see it. Real quick. And one less "false hope" for the seller (I know how it feels.)

I have a bunch of stuff on now with loads of watchers but no bids. I hate the vultures hoping to snafoo a 99p item at the death.

Although, I do it myself. Haha.

Ebay watchers are morons that can't help themselves! I once re-listed an item 4 times and had over 4 watchers each time with no sale. These people are broke, low budget, window shopping idiots in my opinion. Ebay should remove watching and leave the wishlist option for wishful wanna be shoppers or reveal their account names. This way if the same idiots keep watching, they can be blocked from your sales.
