Ebay Challenge Update 1/24

January 24th, 2009 at 07:13 pm

I shipped the one item to Argentina today. Postage was actually $2.75 less than I had charged so I'm going to give back a partial refund. I don't like to rip people off on the postage.

I still have 7 active auctions. 2 have bids. 4 of the other 5 have watchers. 2 end on 1/26. 5 end on 1/27.

Still no more half.com sales.

I need to order a roll of bubble wrap as mine is just about done. I'm debating about ordering more shipping labels. I like the convenience and clean look of labels but I know it is cheaper to print on paper and cover it with tape. I've found the labels on ebay for $13/100 instead of $23 at Staples, plus I learned how to only use half a sheet at a time instead of a whole sheet, so $13 would get me labels for 200 shipments. That's less than 7 cents per package. I think I'll probably stick with labels.

I'm a paper and taper myself. I did'nt even know they had labels! Thanks for the tip!

I'm a handwriter personally. I just handwrite the addresses on the envelope. I can't ever get my printer to print the labels out correctly.

Koppur, I'm referring to labels for printing the postage, not just the name and address. I print all my postage at home (except for international shipments which I'm never sure I'm doing right).

I just checked and I still have 29 sheets of labels, so enough for 58 packages. I don't need to order them just yet. I may still decide to go with paper and tape to cut costs. Maybe I'll try it on the next one I ship and see how it is.

Now that I'm doing this challenge, I'm starting to get obsessed. I own my own business and I find myself checking my ebay listings several times throughout the day! Patience grasshopper... I should put this much anxiety into marketing my business in a tough economy.
    Anyone else get obsessed?

Count me in the obsessed group. I also check in frequently even though I know nothing is likely to change in that short a time. Sometimes it does, though. I just checked a minute ago and one item got a 2nd bid that wasn't there a little while ago, so sometimes I'm rewarded for checking. Of course, all that really matters is the final price. It's just fun to watch along the way.

I'm obsessed too. I wish I wasn't, but I listed a couple more things yesterday. My favorite packing bonus came a few years ago. I was walking by a big art gallery and they were unloading pictures all wrapped in bubble wrap.
The moving guys were headed toward the dumpster with armloads until I steered them to my car! I have bubble wrap for the next ten years. I can't quite say why that thrills me so much, but it does.

It thrills you because you're frugal, just like the rest of us. I've been selling online since the early 1990s and I've never spent a penny for packing peanuts or tissue paper. I have bought bubble wrap, but the other stuff I just scavenge anywhere I can.

Yeah, I suppose that's it. And at least I saved it from the landfill temporarily. The local PO laughs at my recycled padded envelopes.

I'm just guessing that more than a few of us are at least a little obsessed!
