Casino visit and Decluttering update

January 25th, 2009 at 06:26 pm

I thought I'd take a break from the Ebay Challenge posts.

My daughter had a youth group event last night so my wife and I dropped her off and headed to the casino for a couple of hours. As usual, I took a seat at an electronic blackjack table and played for a little over an hour, winning $212.50 in the process, so I was happy with that. My wife didn't fare as well and lost $74, but that still made it a winning trip overall and a nice evening out.

On the decluttering front, my wife has actually been more inspired than me lately. Two main areas that she has attacked: We have a dresser in our hallway that constantly gets stuff piled on it. She has cleared that off to where we can see almost the entire top. Just a few things remain on there. Then today, while I was out, she cleaned out one set of kitchen cabinets where we keep storage containers, water bottles, cooling racks and a few other assorted things. She threw out a bunch of containers that we no longer have lids for, lids that we no longer have containers for, and water bottles that we don't like and never use and organized everything that remained.

I keep reminding all of us that if we can organize our storage areas - pantry, drawers, closets, garage - then we will have more room to store the things we do want and be able to find them when we need them.

It feels good when you get inspired to declutter something. I'll do that from time to time and its amazing to find all that space you didn't think you had.

Decluttering is good on so many levels... not just finding stuff to recycle, sell, donate, or toss, but it gives new life to your living space and promotes a feeling of well-being and order. I need to work on decluttering the laundry counter in the garage... I just need a little more motivation and it's so darn cold out there.

For a long time I couldn't figure out why I was never comfortable in my own home. Then I realized it was b/c I had too much stuff and no place to put it all. And I started decluttering. I still have a long way to go, but it feels great,

Congrats on the casio winnings. I love the slots myself. Smile

Koppur, unfortunately, my wife plays the slots, too. She understands that the odds are stacked against her. I did get her to play blackjack one time a month or so ago and she won over $100 in about 20 minutes. She did think that was pretty cool. She then proceeded to lose it all on slots. The main problem is that at the casino we go to, the blackjack tables are in the smoking section. That keeps her away.

cleaning out the stupid plastic stuff drawer always makes me feel great. Ours seems to fill up with travel mugs with no lids and lids with no mugs. Always drives me crazy when I'm trying to fill one up! P.S. sold $125 of stuff on Craigslist tonight-I'm ahead of my goal, and I have 2 ebay auctions coming up in < hour. woohoo!

Containers and their lids are just like socks, aren't they - they lose their partner so easily. Its why I pick a brand of container and a color of sock and be done with it.

The problem with many of the containers is that the container is more prone to break than the lid. Sometimes, the rim tears so that the lid doesn't seal tightly anymore so we toss the container but keep the lid since we have a lot of identical containers.

The containers also break sometimes if they get dropped or fall out of the freezer. Again, the lid will be intact but the container will get tossed.

So there is a tendency to end up with extra lids.
