Pop up shop completed

February 7th, 2021 at 01:08 am

We did that pop up craft/vendor sale today for my wife's sewing business. It wasn't fantastic but wasn't a total loss either. She made a few sales and got one custom order for a bag. Several people took her card and showed interest in some of her custom items so you never know if that might generate a purchase in the future.

We signed up to do it again on March 20. Hopefully the weather will be better then and there will be more customer traffic. These pop up events are relatively new and still building their reputation. Another month or so and hopefully more people know about it and come out regularly to check it out.

I bet she’ll get more business once the weather warms up. How exciting! I admire those that can create with their hands.

    That's terri77.

She's actually had several people express interest after seeing the photos I posted from the shop yesterday. One friend definitely wants to buy one of the bags that was pictured. A couple of other friends may do the same. So even though sales at the shop itself weren't fantastic, they have led to at least one additional sale and maybe more.

I've tried to get her to advertise for ages. Now that she's doing it, she's already seeing the benefit. All it takes is posting a few photos of your work and the buyers start coming.

We opened her a dedicated checking account for the business last week and are now running all business transactions through there.

She also got her state business registration and sales tax license. That is allowing her to not pay sales tax on supplies, which is a nice savings. It's also allowing her to register with some of the places she buys from for their wholesale side rather than their retail side. She's finding that sometimes brings with it substantial discounts.

That's terrific! Hope more people get interested. You are a good hubby to support her in this venture.

rob62521 - This is totally payback. For many years, from the time we got back together in 1989 until the early 2000s, I had a collectibles business and sold at toy and collectible shows from NY to VA so she has put in lots of sweat equity with that. Now it's my turn to help with her business, which I'm more than happy to do.

Greenleaf - She doesn't yet. She has been selling casually to friends and family for a few years but only recently started to approach it more seriously. A few months ago she started selling her bags on consignment at an area yarn shop and has done well there. She's done a couple of little craft shows in the past but she makes a much nicer line of items now.
