He just worked on the floor today. He didn't get as far as I had hoped but we'd rather have it done well than done fast. He was working out from the outer wall which is where one set of cabinets will go so that area needs to be perfectly level. That took him some extra time. He said he'll be able to progress faster tomorrow. Today he laid 21 tiles I think. They're 12x24 so he put down about 42 sq ft out of a total of 237 sq ft, in addition to what he put down yesterday (maybe about half that) so I think we're around 25% done but I didn't actually measure exactly.
He said he will be working late tomorrow but then will be off on Friday because he has a graduation to attend. He will come by for a short time on Saturday because the spacers between the tiles need to be removed once they're set.
Even though only about 1/4 of the floor is in place, we can at least get a much better idea of how it will look in the room and we're happy with it.

I also chose 12x24 tiles for the kitchen corner #2 project that will be used for this one too. We lived in a house before that had a tile kitchen floor, and the grout would get filthy. This time I minimized grout lines by using a larger tile and also used a higher quality grout. I also went with a grout color that is very close to the tile color so the grout isn't a contrast that makes it more prominent. So far it is holding up much better. Of course I don't have 5 little boys running/crawling over it either!
It's interesting to see that some of the process the guys use must be personal preference. My contractor starts in the middle and works outward. I think his rationale was that the tiles requiring cutting would be on the edges and those are often under furniture so they don't show.

Agreed. We're happy with how it is turning out so far.
