Kitchen update 7/22/25 - PHOTOS!

July 23rd, 2025 at 01:32 am

Our contractor left today. He has some finishing stuff to do but is waiting for items to come in so he is done for now, 57 days since beginning. He only worked Monday to Friday, of course, except he did come a couple of times on Saturday to finish some things but didn't do full days. He also took a couple of days off along the way, so he probably worked a total of 38 days I think. Pretty damn impressive when you look at what he did and consider the fact that he worked alone with the exception of the electrician coming twice to do the major electrical work. Other than that, he gutted and rebuilt the entire kitchen and bathroom.

I've never shared photos in a blog before so hopefully this works.

So there it is. We are very pleased with the outcome. As I said, there's some stuff to finish but we are back in the room, loading the drawers and cabinets, trying to remember where we stored everything and figuring out where we want it all to go in the new room. We didn't just replace what we had; we redesigned the layout quite a bit so nothing is really going where it used to be. It will take a while to get used to everything being in a new place but we'll figure it out.

    It looks very beachy…

Well placed counter space, and is that a pantry closet?

Thanks. Yeah we weren’t going for beachy but somehow that’s where we ended up. It’s bright and airy and my wife keeps saying it feels like a vacation home. That’s not a bad thing.

That is a pantry closet. Pull outs on the bottom and shelves on top.

DS, this is so nice! I especially like your new backsplash tile. It's such a rich color and it contrasts well with the cabinets. Is your DW glad now that she went with the white cabinets? Hopefully there's no remorse on that decision. It's clean and coordinates with the powder room too.

You're fortunate to have a nice kitchen window that comes almost to the countertop. I've just had that added since ours was a smaller one higher up.

Thanks LB. I think she's good with the white now even though it really wasn't what she wanted. Until the backsplash went in and especially until the walls were painted she wasn't sold but once the only white thing left in the room was the cabinets she liked it. And yes, the white bead board in the bathroom helps tie everything together.

Yes, the window is great. The previous owners put in that, the sliding door, and the bay window in the next room. They're all Pella windows and are very nice. Plus the wood frame brings some warmth into the room even though it doesn't actually match anything else. It complements stuff well.

Your kitchen looks great! All that forethought has paid off!

OK, what's your secret to sharing photos? I keep getting an error message and I've tried numerous times, even making the photos smaller, and no go!

rob, I transferred the photos from my phone to my desktop. Then I clicked on the camera icon in the create blog screen, chose the photo files, and hit save. Very simple.
